The book has a lot more information on taking care of your face and body than I expected. It is essentially a how-to guide on everything relating to facial and body care and it’s made me more conscious of taking care of myself as whole. There is a section for every type of man which is good because you may want to look super polished one day but more casual another day. Beyond the regular grooming, the book also gives some tips on how to stay energized and motivated with some cool motivational interviews mixed in. I especially liked the “life hacks” which give you some useful tricks when you’re traveling or just need to look your best in a hurry.

The strength of MANMADE is how easy and accessible the book is in approach to its grooming content and presentation design. It’s a beautiful volume. But more important is how it frames grooming as an essential component of modern living for men. Not simply a ‘guide book of tips,’ MANMADE considers a number of lifestyles men lead or roles men take on and matches simple grooming regimens that make the individual feeling and looking their best. This is supplemented by interviews of men who embody such roles and lifestyles, providing personal insight into the author’s thesis: that grooming is the nexus of personal health, style, and identity. And Chris Salgardo’s MANMADE is a compelling argument for such a worldview.

Nothing new here but useful primer
I was honestly hoping for more from this book - I have a lot of respect for the brand and by association, it’s CEO - perhaps this is meant to be something of an introductory text to the basics?

Good reference for the modern man...
SUMMARY:In today’s world, it is okay for modern men to care about grooming, skincare, and health. With tips, techniques, ideas and personal style demystified, Manmade takes the guess work out of appearance. Containing answers from modern, real men (actors, businessmen, artists and tradesmen), no matter the style and type of men, grooming care is of utmost importance. From basics (shampoo, soap and clean nails) to more detailed (eyebrows, moisturizers, haircuts), life hacks (oily skin, toothbrushes, travel tips) complete the picture. Looking well groomed promotes confidence to the world which allows the inner self to be the best too…A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:Definitely written with the more modern man in mind, there were some very good tips for men of all ages. Shaving, eating, skin essentials, all of which are important to the whole person. From professional to rugged, the necessary care and result is the same…clean, healthy and confident. Though not everyone will connect with the style of this book, taking the mystery and attitude out of men’s personal care will definitely help some take more pride and responsibility in their appearance through their grooming. Perfect as a gift in middle school, college, or career-oriented, Chris Salgardo, president of Kiehl’s skincare line, does a nice job of making grooming a common occurrence for men.RATING:4 (out of 5) pennies*I received a complimentary copy of Manmade from Blogging For Books for my honest review*
