The annoying parts:- Kindle books don't use the previous and next page buttons. You must click with your little stylus, or- If you lose your little stylus, it costs $30 to replace- If you choose "Calibrate", you'll darn-near brick your device- It only shows your last few books- Scrolling through your book list is annoying if you have more than 100- Requires a light in the room (not a backlit device)- Can't organize your books into folders. So if you're loading a few thousand, you'll be hurting- Slow, slow SLOW responsiveness from Kindle and Nook- No home button- Trying to navigate with the little joystick makes you want to forcefully spike the device into concrete- All the cases hold it landscape mode. Nobody reads landscape mode- Battery lasts MAYBE 2 hours with wireless on (but 2 weeks with it off)Great parts:- You can install your favorite Android book reader, and set it to default! Highly customizable.- Can read Nook or Kindle books + any downloaded ebooks (like old classic freebies on the web)- HUGE, beautiful screen that doesn't strain your eyes- Supports a 32gb SD card, although that's THOUSANDS of books and I'd hate to scroll through that- Can install your favorite android apps on here (weather, etc)- Plays your audible books!- PDFs look greatI still love it, and use it all the time. Bigger screen = win.

There are very limited options for a larger screen e-ink reader. This is the main appeal of this device--a 9.7 inch E ink screen. The particular model I received has the electrostatic touchscreen which can be only operated with the included stylus. There are many buttons on the device to bring up the menu, turn pages, and even a multi-function joystick control with click button. The problem is that the entire device cannot be fully controlled by the buttons--so you must use the stylus for some functions and for the android apps. There is no place to store the stylus and it is not very comfortable to hold or use. And easy to lose if you read other reviews. I guess there is a capacitive touch screen model--but it is not a very good capacitive touch screen--so no easy solution.The screen is nice for reading, but the software is not. I only had the device for a short time but in just checking out pdfs, it locked up often. Perhaps my unit was a dud, but...I dunno. This is NOT a cheap tablet and the overall function is less than the sum of the parts. If you don't mind the price, the quirks or having to manage the buggy software then good for you. But having to use the stylus at times and the overall experience was very unappealing.Again, there are very few options for a large screen e-ink reader. The Kindle DX is pretty old and not being updated...but I would recommend looking for one instead of this kind of device. Or hope other options are forthcoming.

Background:I am a med student with an Ipad who has to read over 300 pgs of pdfs a week.Conclusion: The tablet is superior to reading from the ipad.Pros?-No eye strain means that I can read as much as I want without having headaches. It also makes me more likely to read as I notice I enjoy reading from the Boox better. Like the Ipad I can access my coursenotes from blackboard, other notes from google drive or send it via bluetooth. The majority of my classmates print out their courseguides (Even though we all recieved IPads from our school). This purchase was cheaper than having to print out the courseguides (And more convenient due to time and size) and now I can read other PDFs easily as well in the future.Bonus: My notes are EASIER to annotate via this tablet than the ipad. The stylus used for this tablet/ the screen can register precise touch (Unlike the ipad).Cons?-The battery is not up to par with my kindle but better than my IPad. It took a second to get used to everything. It is tough to see some darkly colored images in my text.-Replacing the stylus was a pain, make sure to get a compatible one.

The screen does not work without the stylus, and most styluses will not work. Ones that will NOT work, Samsung Note, Microsoft Surface Pro 1 and 3, Wacom Intuos, Wacom Bamboo, capacitive sponge/silicon, passive styli with a hard tip (like Nintendo DSi/3DS). For a US based sourced replacement, the Jetbook Color active stylus works, and is less than $10 from Ectaco.The CPU is a bit slow to deal with image heavy PDFs, but there are many application options because the tablet runs Android. If you are a power user, you can replace the launcher and use it a lot like a tablet. ADW Launcher, Locale, EZ PDF reader, and Moon Reader all work well. You can install Amazon Kindle and read, but the page turn buttons do not work as expected.If you are not a power user, you would probably be happier with a different reader.

Weil ich den ganzen Tag im Büro vor dem Computer sitze, habe ich gezielt einen Android-Reader mit WLAN und Bluetooth gesucht, um auch mal draußen am Strand mit dem Bluetooth-Keyboard ein paar Zeilen tippen zu können. Das funktioniert auch wirklich. Für diese Fähigkeit war ich bereit, ein paar Euros mehr auszugeben.Die Zeitverzögerung des Displays macht es allerdings einigermaßen anstrengend, Korrekturen vorzunehmen. Die Stift-Bedienung (kein Touch-Screen) ist auch nicht unmittelbar förderlich. Mit all diesen Features und dieser Display-Größe ist es jedoch meines Wissens aktuell (noch) das einzige am Markt.Der satte Preis ließ auf ein flotteres Ansprechen des Gerätes auf Eingaben hoffen. Dem ist leider nicht so. Die Akku-Laufzeit ist dafür eher E-Reader-typisch lang. Genaue Zahlen habe ich dazu noch keine gemessen.Das installierte Reader-Programm kann PDF und diverse andere anzeigen und beherrscht ein Feature namens "PDF-Reflow", welches normale PDF-Seiten in ihre Textteile zerlegt und im klassischen Reader-Style mit verschiedenen Zooms anzeigen kann. Das erhöhrt erheblich den Lese-Komfort. Den Kontrast finde ich zum Lesen eines Buches sehr gut.Ich habe auch ein Freeware-Android-Officepaket drauf installiert. Das läuft zwar langsam aber es läuft. Tabellenkalkulation und Textverarbeitung lassen sich bedienen. Hier muss man etwas mit dem Zoom spielen, bis das Dokument auf dem Display gut zu lesen ist. Endlich kann ich draußen in der prallen Sonne liegen und gemütlich an einer Arbeit tippen.Nur Angry Birds läuft leider auf Android 4.0 nicht mehr. Aber wer spielt schon gerne in schwarz-weiß?Fazit: Schön groß. Funktionsumfang ist genial. Stift, Tempo und Preis leider noch nicht so.

Ich habe mich sehr gefreut als ich dieses Produkt entdeckt habe. Ich warte seit Jahren auf einen E-Ink-Reader mit dem sich A4-PDFs vernünftig darstellen lassen. Dies ist mit dem Reader auch fast möglich. Die Software kann automatisch die Ränder abschneiden, sodass der gesamte Platz genutzt werden kann. Nur leider ist die Auflösung des Display zu niedrig. Das Lesen wird sehr anstrengend, da die Schrift nicht richtig aufgelöst wird.Der Reader hat kein Licht und lässt sich nur mit dem Stift bedienen. Das war mir beides vorneweg klar, hat sich aber als problematisch herausgestellt. Großes Manko: Der Stift lässt sich nirgendwo im Gerät verstauen.Die Software ist leider noch nicht ganz ausgereift. Der Reader hat sich nicht immer gemerkt, auf welcher Seite ich zuletzt gelesen hatte und mitunter gab es Probleme bei der Darstellung von Umlauten.Ein weiteres Manko: Der Reader selbst ist auch schlecht verarbeitet und knackt und knarzt beim anfassen. Die Knöpfe fühlen sich billig an.Insgesamt war der Reader für diese Probleme dann wirklich zu teuer. Ich würde aber einen neuen Versuch mit einem Nachfolgegerät wagen, wenn die beschriebenen Mängel behoben wären.
