Q: will it work on a 110v pump?

Yes the float will work on 110v, I absolutely would not trust it on 240v. The wires are thin probably 14 or 16 AWG, but will work on 110v. Thank you

Yes, It will work with 220. You only hook up one wire to a hot leg.

Q: is it compatible with 12 volt back up pump

Yes,it is. Rated Voltage:AC 220V/380V ,DC12V/24V/36V/48V

Q: Can this be set to turn the pump off at a high level, on at low levels?

This is ok. Connect the float switch to the water pump. The float switch can start and turn on the water pump according to the adjusted water level line.
