Q: What is the difference in keurig k-select and keurig k-55? not sure which one to purchase.

Keurig K-Select Have 52 oz reservoir and 4 cup size up to 12 oz as to k-55 only have 48 oz reservoir and 3 cup size up to 10 oz only. So depending on how much cup of coffee you drink a day and how strong or weak you like it.

Q: Is the K55 easy for 86yr old to operate?

Yes. I am 65 with bad arthritis in my hands. It is very easy to put in pod, close lid, hit strong button and cup size. I tells you when to add water and descale. The strong feature works great.

Q: I was wondering how the strong setting makes the coffee stronger? Is it just brewing at a slower rate?

Yes it slows down the rate of water flow & works great with extra fine coffee. Which you use less coffee
