Coral M.2 Accelerator with Dual Edge TPU …

This was a huge pain in the A$$ to set up. I purchased it as an upgrade from my coral USB accelorator. Only to find it out was a nightmare to get up and running in on my raspberry pi. Mainly because Google abandoned the project 3 years ago. Meaning they havnt updated anything. One of those things is the version of python. The libraries you need run on an older version of python and Raspberry Pis OS comes with the latest version. I had to find an older version of debian LINUX that still used it and run a docker container just to set everything up. WAS NOT fun and I essentially was so disappointed, havnt used it much since. You can still use it to increase your inference rate for training your Ai model, but keep running into so many issues it's really not worth thr hassle I woukd not suggest buying one unless support and development has inprocd

It took me a bit to get my VM working in Proxmox with this, but it's blazing object detecting now!

Linux drivers have not been updated, meaning you an not able to run the latest version of Ubuntu. At best you will be able to run Ubuntu 20.04.

Difficult to use. You have to have. Avery specific and rare M.2 slot that most motherboards won't have. Would have been Greta to have included the adapters you can find online for these to make them use able on more motherboards.

I should have done my homework.For those who don’t know, m.2 slots have many variations. The most common are a+e key, e key, m key, and for m.2 sata, b key. This device is e-key.Lost 1 star for deliberately choosing an incredibly rare form factor combination instead of something more mainstream and readily available. Literally, the only change they need to make is the slot connector. Make it m-key instead of e-key. See more below…For some unknown reason, this dual package is only available in a form factor that only a small handful of devices fully support. Yes, a lot of devices have an e-key m.2 slot. Very few of those are pcie x2. The vast majority are x1. The product description is accurate. This device is 2 pcie x1 interfaces. It uses 1 pcie x1 interface for each core.The smart thing to do is to provide a version of this for m-key m.2 slots that typically have 4 lanes such as the ones used for nvme drives. That way they could make a version that squeezes 4 of these cores into one package and more devices would natively support it. The other option would be to keep the form factor but add an on-board pcie switch to make it use only one lane, like the makerfabs adapter card, since only 1 lane is typically available on e-key slots.Long story short, unless you KNOW your e-key slot is x2 or you have space to use the makerfabs adapter card, buy the single core unit.With that said, the one core my machine can use is working flawlessly.

I use this with the free/open source Frigate NVR software that is connected to my Home Assistant.I have an HP EliteDesk 705 that I took out the wifi/bluetooth card because I use a hardwired LAN connection and put this Coral in instead. Sadly it only detects one of the TPUs, but that's not the Coral's fault, it's a limitation on my computer.

I installed this in my unRAID server using a dual PCI-E adapter. I have been using both Coral units in Frigate for several weeks, and it just works. Was surprisingly easy to setup and use.

You'll need a spare Mini PCIe slot or capable enclosure.
