Loved this book!

Learn to Draw Star Wars: Villains: Draw favorite Star Wars villains, including Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and Darth Maulby Walter Foster Creative Team is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I found this book very fascinating and helpful! I don't think it is for absolute beginners but those with some some experience with shading. The book steps the reader through many complete characters and heads of characters. Great variety! It takes the steps from basic shape to complete drawing. This is a book I hope to get!

A great present for artists of all levels and Star War fans!

Using just two graphite pencils, two types of erasers, drawing paper, and this book, you can Learn to Draw Star Wars Villains. After a brief look at tools and techniques, the book dives into a step-by-step approach of drawing eleven Star Wars villains. Here is a complete list of those shown:Darth MaulGeneral GreviousCount DookuEmperor Palpatine/Darth SidiousDarth VaderBib FortunaJabba the HuttBoba FettKylo RenCaptain PhasmaSupreme Leader SnokeThere are also closer looks at how to draw lightsabers and trooper helmets, drawing faces behind masks, and the differences between Boba and Jango Fett. How I wish I had read the helmet section before buying my then-teenage daughter a Storm Trooper helmet online. When it arrived, she started crying and shouted that it was a clone warrior helmet. I said but look it has the mouth scoops. I now know that it was a Phase II clone helmet. At the time, I was thinking of the Phase I clone helmet. Heavy sigh...The steps for each drawing start with simple circles and gradually add details and texture until the finished picture emerges. There are excellent details about how to make fabrics look worn and achieve the right texture depending on the type of material. It also shows the reader how to draw leather and metallic parts accurately.Learn to Draw Star Wars Villains is a great gift choice for the artist or Star Wars fan in your life. It doesn’t assume any pre-existing level of drawing skill. For younger artists, copying the rough outline would also work. 4 stars! Thanks to the publisher, Walter Foster, and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Cool book but might go over a beginners head

Recently got brought back into the Star Wars fandom and saw this book suggested to me. After reading which characters were focused on and the conflicting reviews, I figured "why not" and purchased it to see how well this would do in teaching how to draw. I can say I personally like this book, but that might solely be because I can appreciate seeing going from the base sketch to the finalized piece.I don't think it would be good for beginners. Now, why do I think this might go over a new artist's head? Well, it's because of some of the processes in the steps and the fact this doesn't feel like a "Learn to draw" book, to me personally. I appreciate the tips on how to get the fabrics and metals to look as they do, but in a learn to draw book, I would assume there'd be more tips on how you would shape out drawing a character.Honestly, I did buy this for aid on drawing General Grievous (and Vader, Phasma, and other characters with metal properties but that's beside the point) and was slightly disappointed we only went into a headshot for him. I was hoping for a full-body tutorial and tips about drawing his overall frame and the wires and metals that littered it. There was none of that unless you want to count the shading for them. This tutorial would have only helped me with those materials. Otherwise, if I had to draw Grievous by myself in a different pose, there's no base reference shapes or techniques to go off of and form him.Despite the jump in steps and lack of some tips to form characters, this would be a nice reference for beginners, but not as their first book. Artists more aware of form and construction would benefit more from this.

Not the best teaching material

doesn't really teach you how to draw figures, but more of an example of how to arrive at the Star wars figure through steps.

Not for beginners

This is not a “how to draw book.” It is just someone showing you a drawing. They show you the drawing then give you 3 points at completely/non-Consecutively points drawing. (This is a little confusing but once you buy it you will understand. Also this could just be a different kind of drawing book meant for “professionals”) Don’t let this steer you away from buying it, but I would not recommend for any beginner or slightly good drawer.

Drawing Star Wars

Learn to Draw Star Wars Villains was a book full of the different Villains all the way from Rogue One to the Last Jedi. Quite complicated for beginners because they jump quite a bit for every step. This would be a challenge for the more experienced drawer but doable. They show the shading in the different steps so you know what pencil to use for each part.I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Buena calidad.

me gustó mucho, buena calidad y las figuras y explicaciones son buenas, no es un curso de dibujo como tal pero te sirve mucho para la práctica si llevas ya un curso de dibujo aparte como es mi caso. Es en inglés la explicacion. Vale la pena.
