Excellent flashlight and value
I have a number of more expensive flashlights (Surefire, etc.) that are great for what I use them for (hiking, EDC, etc.), so I know a bit about flashlights. Here's what I like about the Energizer Hard Case Task Light:1. Good power (2 settings - low and high)2. Bright white beam color3. Wider-angle beam, relative to some other types of lights4. Runs on 2 AA batteries, cheap and easy availability5. Side switch is very easy to activate6. Flat bottom allows it to stand up7. Seems durable8. Excellent valueFor general use around the home and car I find this flashlight to be much better and more useful than the higher-power, tactical-style lights. It throws a much wider beam that's useful within 20 feet or so in a dark room. The switch is much easier to activate than typical tail-cap switches. Some reviewers said the battery life is poor. I typically use it for a minute or two at a time, perhaps a couple of times a day, so I can't offer any useful feedback on battery life. It did seem that the batteries that came with it didn't last too long - don't know if they were just old batteries that had been on the shelf for awhile or if the flashlight does drain batteries fairly quickly.I popped in a pair of Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries. They fit and worked fine. Some rechargeables are slightly larger than standard AA batteries and fit can be an issue, but the Eneloops fit just like regular AA batteries. One issue I encountered seemed like a problem but wasn't. I was having problems turning the flashlight on, and it was only providing one power setting, not two. I thought it may have been faulty, but it was just low batteries. Popped in another set of batteries and it was fine.If you're looking for a high-output tactical light, this isn't it. But it's a great flashlight for home and car use.Assuming the flashlight holds up over time, it's a steal at the price it sells for.

Doesn't hold up
Last update. Second one went into the trash tonight as it just stopped working. Never again.Update, July 2017: From five stars to two. Never dropped it, but now it only turns on half the time. Have to mess with the battery cover, and if I get it just right (not in full closed position) it will work. Thought it would hold up more than 4-5 months. Guess I'll look for a different brand. Too bad...liked the pivot head which still works fine.Feb 2017: Great flashlight. Love the size, the ability to set it down and adjust the beam, the magnet to attach to things when needed. And it's powerful for my purposes. Not only would I buy again....I did to have two around.

Cool x 1.5
This is just cool-and-a-half. I can see many uses compared to the classic beam-oriented flash light. This is an area-illuminator. The area gets even lighting. The control ergonomics are clever -- just hold the button and it will swing through brighter and dimmer. Or you can click to jump to different intensity settings. With two or more of these as a portable lighting rig, you can probably make better cellphone videos and photos, too.Only minor complaint is it would be nice to have pivot stops (clicks?) at 0°, 45°, 90°, 135° and 180°.Also, as an astronomer, I'd love a red led or red filter version.

Expect to replace the OEM batteries immediately and often after that, or the light will not work.
So there is no confusion, this is about the newest model TUF2AAPE.[...]Battery hog.I had the old 3 light version of the Energizer Hard Case. Not too bright, but excellent product- batteries lasted a week or more. This model has an upgraded LED with substantially more lumens.A welcome improvement. However, on high, it will drain your batteries so fast they get hot.Good luck with a 30 minute stretch, have more AA's on hand. The way the low setting is regulated is with a circuit strobe. This has the effect of altering the perception of speed and timing of mechanical action, and could pose risk for the unaware.Although the design of the light suits it's intended purpose and durability claims, andthe lumen output is very good for a short duration, engineering screwed the pooch economically, because if you depend on this light for your daily duties, expect to go through a set of batteries every 2 days.We have used Duracell Procell, Energizer Industrial, and currently use Pro-Safe to no avail.Be advised it is not the light's switch that is the failure. It is a power consumption issue.

Really good flashlight, and very good company
Great backyard and camping flashlight. Very bright; can find the raccoon at the top of a tree that my dig is barking at easily. I tried 2 others that had their own rechargeable battery packs built in; both battery packs failed within a few years and I couldn't find replacements. This one uses 6 AA batteries, and works great with rechargeables. The only bad thing about it is that it quit working after it fell 8 inches off a shoe rack to the floor. It is supposed to withstand a fall from 7 feet or so. So why the great review? I emailed Energizer and they promptly sent me a refund check, even though the only proof I ever owned one was the photo I supplied, at their request (I had recycled the packaging and receipt long ago.) And the check more than covered the cost of the replacement. The 5 stars is for Energizer. I give the flashlight 4.9 stars, 5 if it survives that same fall again.
