Gaea's Blessing Seeds - Green Shiso Seeds (Perilla), Heirloom Non-GMO Seeds with Easy to Follow Planting Instructions, Kaori Ao Shiso, Open-Pollinated, 94% Germination Rate

I followed the directions, alternated freezing and thawing seeds in a cycle of 3 days each for 21 days. I soaked 15 seeds for 48 hours in a container of water and sprinkled them on top of water soaked starter soil of 50 percent sand and 50 percent sphagnum moss, wet but well drained. I also planted another 40 seeds that where not soaked in water for 48 hours about half of an inch into the soil to see if they would germinate. in 48 hours all 15 water soaked that where scattered on the soil germinated and are growing like crazy! Unfortunately, only 3 of the ones under the soil and not soaked germinated, It still has not been a week, I am expecting them to grow in the advertised four week cycle. What does this all mean? I am very satisfied with the seeds! 100 % of the water soaked seeds germinated using the freeze thaw, soak and scatter method. I have plenty of seeds left over and in only 2 days after planting I have 18 new plants germinated!

These were not shiso seeds. I was able to successfully germinate and nurture several plants from these seeds though. I usually subscribe to the "Crowley " (from good omens) method of gardening. However, I really wanted these shiso to succeed. So I chilled them, dampened them in nutritious, sandy soil, and carefully tended them after they were seeded outside. I told the rest of my garden to grow if it was strong enough while I pampered and babied these seeds. They grew wonderfully. Into great, big, flowing waves of pink petunias. So if you want petunias, buy these "shiso" seeds, if you want shiso, visit Uajimaya in Seattle.

Package arrived timely and had instructions on how to prep the seeds. We placed them on a wet towel and most of the seeds did sprout. We kinda forgot about them a couple of times so towel went dry. but quite a few sprouted and survived. It was hard to transplant them from the wet towel to the soil as they were growing into the paper towel. So we lost some, but there are a bunch of them that are growing. Next time we're going to try toilet paper as that will easily break apart and less disturbance to the roots.Still really small so going to take some time before we know what we got, but looks like the shape of the shiso leaves. This is the furthest we have gotten so far, and we are happy. I'll send a photo if they get big.

Overall I would say I had less than 15% germinate from these seeds. I tried multiple diffrent ways in the ground in my little head starters, ect. I followed their soaking recommendations. None of it made it any better. The few plants I got are trying to grow, not making much progress overall when compared to other brands of the same planted side by side.I love this plant and was really excited to try to grow it here in the US. But these just did not want to grow over all

About 60-70% germinated. They have good flavor but our leaves are not very large. Will buy again though.

I wasn’t sure about getting this at first, but after reading some reviews (good and bad) I decided to try it and see what happens. The reviews of the Shiso not germinating was concerning, but after some time the Shiso grew. As someone who can barely keep plants alive, these seeds worked well for me. As long as it’s available I will be buying this Shiso.

The shiso you find in Japanese restaurants has a stronger flavor, and there is also a slight difference in appearance. The real thing also has a much longer “tip” than the leaves on this plant. The pictures leaves seem closer to the real thing, so it’s a bit disappointing to think you’re getting the real thing only to get a similar variety. Granted, it could just be climate, but I’m not sure I buy that and I’m growing the plant in a pot. Flavor is too mild, so I can’t recommend. Germination is great, but feel deceived and so you get 1 Star.
