Works Surprisingly Well
I bought this device for two specific use cases: capturing VGA output from Windows 98SE machines and for capturing VGA output from Color Maximize 1 & Color Maximize 2 retro computer platforms. In both of my use cases (all captured through this device connected to another machine using OBS with a base resolution of 1920x1080 and scaling it to a 4:3 ratio) I've been semi-stunned that this device has worked for what I use it for, particularly on the Color Maximite 1 retro computer. It's video signal is completely software generated by bitbanging through a small resistor ladder at some strange resolutions (240x216 and 480x432). This device has simply worked where others have had a very difficult time synchronizing. The Color Maximize 2 uses more traditional base resolutions and this device handles them admirably. My last use case has been a Dell C640 at a resolution of 1400x1050 at 60hz.For the price it performs great. You will definitely get a little bit better quality with an Epiphan VGA capture device but your can buy 8 or 9 of these for the price of one of them.Highly recommend this model!

It does work, but its picky with certain computers
For the price, this is serviceable on most computers. I tried it briefly on several generations of computers, mostly HP & Compaq computers. The results are mixed. If you really want to see the results in great detail, find the video "Gracetop VGA capture."Hardware: The device is built well. The case is great. The VGA cord is a little short, but not bad. The USB cable is a sin against nature. It is a very short USB cable with both ends being USB A. It doesn't fit great either. I didn't try the audio cable. My intent was to use this on computers without sound cards. It was plug and play on Windows 10. Since no minimal operating system was specified (like Windows XP) I only tried this on Windows 10. This is something I like to test on my YouTube channel for fun.Display capabilities #1: One of the other reviewers stated that this capture device only does certain resolutions. That is correct. I have a HP Compaq 6730B that displays a maximum screen resolution of 1280x800. The right side of the screen was cut off. The device does display 1920x1080 but there was a black border in the recording. I'm not sure if this is something that can be adjusted in the software. 1024x768 & 640x480 worked great. One major thing to notice you'll have a one to two second delay when capturing. If the capture device has to change screen resolutions, the delay will be longer. My ThinkPad running Windows XP experienced a several second delay during startup.Display capabilities #2: Vintage computers (say anything made prior to 2000) is where things get really interesting. I tried this device on a Compaq LTE Lite 4/25 and had all sorts of problems. I had no display of any kind until I booted into Windows. It was nothing but black screen in DOS & the BIOS. My LTE 5280 would be nothing but black screen until I hard set the screen options to "both" in the BIOS. Once I did that, I had a crisp capture. Your computer may vary with this device. It is possible the LTE Lite 4/25 needs something set in the BIOS as well. The computer doing the capture: I used a vanilla HP Elitebook 2760P with the i3 processor. It has a very low end Intel graphics card. It did fine recording. There's a lot that can be tweaked to make file sizes smaller. For the price, it's not a terrible product, but do keep in mind this capture device may flat out not work for your system. The picture quality is great on lower resolutions. I can't say for sure if my older computer didn't like the 1920x1080 resolution. That didn't look the best. The OBS Studio software is a bear if you're not tech savvy. It took me a while to find what I need the first time around. Once things are in place, the capture card did fine. This is good for a XP or Vista era system for sure. Use caution on anything made in the 90s or earlier.

It works!
This one worked right away! Not the highest quality picture, but for the price, not bad at all. And it didn't require drivers for Window 7. Sadly the Startech USB capture card for $155 didn't work for anything on the VGA port. The Startech was a complete disaster trying to get the drivers to install and work, and when it would work, upon reconnecting you'd have to reinstall the drivers again.

Does not capture 320x280 MS-DOS, does work for win3.11 and old macs
I purchased this specifically because the manufacturer answered a question here on Amazon saying that the device would capture VGA signals in old MS-DOS resolutions and screen modes. This is incorrect. I verified with multiple DOS computers, and multiple software recorders (OBS, etc), just a solid grey image in MS-DOS including full-screen games/apps.It captures Windows 3.11, and my old Macos7 system, but the brightness is a little low in both and I had to spend an hour tweaking video filters in OBS to make the brightness look right.I'm giving this 2 stars because I specifically purchased it for MS-DOS capture, and it does not serve that function.

Works with Ben Eater VGA
I got this to capture video and images from my Ben Eater VGA kit.It uses a odd 100x75 pixel resolution with 800x600 timing. This capture box works great. Totally shocked my mess of wires and counter chips gets captured just fine from this.

Works great!
Works great! Use this to hook up 2 projectors and send the signal to another computer for streaming on YouTube. Was easy to setup and install. No problems at all.
