Q: What is the proper wiring for a 120v lamp

Black and Blue (L1) go to the light bulb. The other black and Red (L) go to the 120V power. Yellow goes to the metal on the base of the lamp that is touched to turn the lamp on.

Q: will this work with regular incandescent bulb in the lamp?

It does with mine. I think it will work ONLY with incandescent, unless leds are advertised as "dimmable." Even so, my experience with led's is that they don't dim is smoothly as incandescent. This little module allowed me to rescue a pretty expensive bedside light that used the long, 40 watt incandescent bulbs. Works very well and easy to install.

Q: if you unplug the fixture you modified with this touch switch does it remember what state it was left in - on or off, once plugged in again?

I've found that after plugging it in, its on/off state is random, sometimes on, sometimes off. I would not expect it to remain in it's previous state once power is removed.

Q: does this work with aluminum as the metal?

As long as it is a conductor and it doesn't have some type of insulating coating on the metal it will work. It works when you actually touch the metal itself.
