Trusted brand at an affordable price

Crucial is one of the most trusted names in the SSD space, right next to Samsung. I have owned many of their drives and have never had an issue.Bought this to upgrade a laptop I ended up returning. Storage (especially SSD storage) is always good to have around, so I decided to keep this despite returning the device I planned to use it with. Decided to make it an external Steam drive for my Steam Deck to store AAA games that I don't play as often. It initially transferred data at blazing fast speeds, but after transferring a few large games back to back, it slowed down dramatically. I did not bother to look up the specs of this drive as I just cared about capacity and read speeds. I am assuming this drive is similar to the Intel 660p. A large capacity SSD with blazing fast read speeds but a limited fast cache leading to dramatic write speed slowdowns once its filled at an affordable price. I expected this performance, given the price. Its not a big deal at all, depending on your use case. For storing games or hosting an OS where you mostly read data, this is a fantastic drive. If you are using this for an OS, I would recommend moving your downloads folder to another drive to ensure no slowdowns on the operating system if you are in the process of downloading hundreds of GB worth of data. If you want something that will be writing and rewriting data often, then you will need to spend more or have less capacity. This drive is an easy recommendation as long as you understand the tradeoffs of the technology.

Excellent M.2 Drive - Great for Windows 11 Upgrade

As a retired IT tech, I can assure you this is an excellent M.2 SSD. Huge amount of storage and super fast. There is some confusion online about sizing for these drives when replacing them in a laptop. In most cases, a laptop will support either a 2280 or a 2230 sized drive. The 2230 is the smaller of the two and has a "postage stamp" size profile. It is perfectly fine in most laptops to remove a 2230 and replace it with a 2280. For example, I purchased this Crucial 2280 1TB to replace a 128G 2230 in my Dell laptop just prior to installing Windows 11. You will likely remove a metal bracket supporting the 2230 and not need it for the 2280. There is also some confusion online about whether or not to apply some kind of thermal tape on the top of this SSD. It that were required, it would come with the drive. Unless you are overclocking your system or using it in high-end gaming, then don't bother. As long as your laptop is sitting on a flat surface with good airflow under it and behind it, you will be fine. Be sure to unplug your laptop battery before removing/replacing a SSD, RAM, etc. Also, only attempt this on a hard surface (kitchen table, etc.) and avoid standing on carpet while doing this. Static electricity is the enemy of a sensitive components like these drives.

Great value, brand and software package. Open box provided extra value beating out the competition.

I was looking for a somewhat fast modern NVMe drive to replace a quality Samsung 850 EVO 250gb boot drive in my secondary PC. Went with this due to the open item price being the best compared to lesser brand new items. Item came in a quality clear bag in good condition and no signs of wear/tear. Installed it first into a different PC to test it out a bit before cloning the boot drive over in the secondary PC. Installed the Crucial management software and checked the firmware which was already up to date. Short Smart Test passed but Extended gave me write errors and wouldn't let me run the secure erase option stating I needed the driver first. Installed the driver from the prompt in the software and that resolved both issues. I now was able to run the extended test and it passed. I then copy/pasted about 400GB of game folders over to the 500GB drive and speeds were great from another NVMe drive. Certainly faster than SSD transfer sustained speeds. Next I formatted it and installed it in the secondary PC. I used Acronis to clone the SSD over to it and worked perfectly. It's currently the boot drive on a 7600X/B650/3060ti secondary PC and running great. I've only had the drive 24hrs though so hopefully no longevity issues pop up. For the sub 30 I paid it was a great value for a mid ranged boot drive. The all black color of the drive certainly looks better than many cheap NVMe drives if you have a window on the case.Mine was an open box for a great price about 30% less than retail. It did take 16 days to finally arrive though which I was in no hurry. I wouldn't recommend 250gb/500gb drives for anything other then your Boot drive. Install 2TB or bigger for games and storage. That also allows you to keep your operating system drive smaller for faster back ups onto your storage drive. When the time comes to fix your boot drive due to corruption or a bug the back up image file is much smaller so it recovers quicker and also takes up less storage space. I haven't tried Crucial back up solutions but I'm sure there is something in their software. I prefer Acronis as it comes free with WD drives and works great.

A banger from Crucial, as always!

I've had plenty of SSDs from Crucial over the years and this is no different!Got this one to upgrade my Dell XPS 13 (9310) and it was flawless, no problems using Clonezilla to clone the original drive to the new one via an enclosure.Speeds are as advertised, reliability seems solid and it should be long lasting if my other Crucial drives are any indicator. It is lacking a DRAM cache but that's not as big of a deal these days as it was during the SATA era (in my opinion), and it's a more budget tier drive so I think that's fine, but if you're seeking DRAM cache this won't be the drive for you.

Great buy for your buck

Dropped it into an ASUS TUF A15. Easy pop in. Immediately detected by disk mgmt. was able to copy a few hundred gigs of content from the source C drive to it at max rate.Excellent bang for your buck when you don’t need the best possible throughput rates.

Bumpy system transfer experience

Perfect fit and function. Though transferring content of original ssd to this device was bumpy. It should be noted that I used software from the original ssd manufacturer successfully to move system and data to this device. This ssd recommended software consistently failed to complete the transfer.
