3M Filtrete 16x25x5 Allergen Defense MPR 1000, MERV 11 media filters fit in a Honeywell F100 style filter frame in nominal 16x25x5 size. The actual size is 15.75" x 24.75" x 4.3". It can be confusing that some nominal 5-inch media filters are actually 5.25-inches instead of 4.3-inches. The larger 5.25-inches size does not fit a Honeywell F100 style nominal 5-inch filter frame.Aside from cleaning the air, it is important for the filter to have a low pressure drop. This is critical if your HVAC unit uses an energy efficient ECM style blower motor. This type of motor can burn out prematurely from high static pressure caused by a filter that creates too much resistance. That is also a reason to avoid filters with very high MERV ratings. Many systems are designed for MERV 8 filters. I use MERV 11 and MERV 12 filters which provide more filtering, but still keep the pressure drop low. I was not able to find published pressure drop specifications for this 3M filter on the Amazon listing or the 3M website, but the specifications are actually written on the outside of the filter (see photo).For a 2-ton system air handler with a typical throughput of 820-1025 CFM, this filter has a low initial pressure drop of 0.11-0.16 IWC (inches of water column). I used my manometer to check this on each of my 2-ton air handlers, and the pressure drop was an even lower, 0.10 IWC at 825 CFM. That is equal to or better than the MERV 11 and MERV 12 Honeywell, BestAir and NordicAir filters that I have used in the past.
